Visual Magnetics and Birsel+Seck were invited to build a pop-up experience for both the 2018 Fast Company Innovation Festival in Grand Central Station, NYC and the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) 2019 Conference located at the Amazon Meeting Center in Seattle, WA. Nick handled all the coordination for both shows and built design files along with Selin Sonmez from Birsel+Seck. The design was based on Ayse Birsel’s Design the Life you Love book. Ayse Birsel is an industry leading industrial designer who had studied Design Thinking methodology throughout the course of her career. After discovering these methods could be applied to everyday life, she wrote a workbook about it for readers to try and has been giving speeches on the subject ever since. The Design the Life You Love Pop-up offers the public an abbreviated look at four of the exercises found in Ayse’s book. Using Visual Magnetics’ Astro Dry Erase, the pop-up team can guide show-goers through the exercises that are blown up in scale and printed directly onto the walls. On the side walls of the pop-up booth visitors can learn more about the wide variety of Visual Magnetics products and take photos for social media using the interactive photo backdrop wall.

Coordination for the Grand Central installation involved many atypical efforts for project management (e.g. arranging for bomb-sniffing dogs, documenting every single item brought to the job site weeks ahead of time down to the exact tools needed, and constructing the booth only out of inspected, fire-safe materials).
